UniPro Houston is proud to bring "Baon" - a one day professional conference for the Filipino Student Organizations of Southern Intercollegiate Filipino Alliance (SIFA) at Texas A&M University on April 22.
For the first time ever, student leaders from Texas and Oklahoma will come together to embark on a journey of identity, empowerment, and legacy by sharing parts of who they are, and their story as community leaders.
"Baon is a great way for self-discovery, growth and how it relates to you and your community," says Trisha Morales, Marketing Head of UniPro Houston. "I can't wait to hear the uniqueness of the Asian American voices, and their stories."
Guest speakers of the conference include:
Jessica Petalio, a Doctoral Student in the University of Alaska Anchorage’s Ph.D Program in Clinical-Community Psychology with an emphasis in indigenous, cultural, and rural psychology. Her current work focuses on Filipina/o American ethnic identity, microaggressions, mental health, and colonial mentality.
Beatrice Tesorero, a San Francisco based High School English teacher specializing in college preparatory expository writing. Also a Master’s student at Saint Mary’s College, her current work examines and challenges current conventions around the Asian American literary canon.
Jeremy Keith Villaluz, an educator and artist currently based in San Francisco State University’s College of Ethnic Studies. His current work explores the relationship between migration and landscape through contemporary art and photography.
